Residents and businesses in 11 Chatham-Kent communities have been advised to reduce their water usage for the next few days due to scheduled repairs on a crucial water transmission line. The municipal public utilities commission issued the request, targeting the following areas for water conservation until Friday: Chatham, Grande Pointe, Paint Court, Dover Centre, Mitchell’s Bay, Dresden, Tupperville, Eberts, Jeannette’s Creek, Thamesville, and Kent Bridge.
While people are encouraged to maintain their normal water consumption for essential household activities like drinking, cooking, and bathing, the municipality emphasized that this initiative is a precautionary step and assures the public that there will be no compromise in the safety or quality of the drinking water supply. Residents should not anticipate any disruption in their water service.
To support the conservation efforts, individuals are advised to delay non-essential water-related tasks such as watering lawns, washing vehicles or outdoor surfaces, filling swimming pools or hot tubs, and engaging in other water-intensive activities. The Ontario government also recommends having a 72-hour emergency preparedness kit stocked with 4 liters of bottled water per person per day.
