The annual Capital Pride street festival and parade are set to take place in Ottawa this weekend, leading to traffic disruption in the downtown area, as several road closures will be implemented starting from Friday evening. Bank Street will be closed between Slater Street and Gladstone Avenue from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Sunday, causing the main disruption.
On Sunday, additional street closures will be in effect for the Pride parade, commencing at 1 p.m. The parade will begin at Booth and Wellington streets and conclude at Bank and Slater streets. The following streets will be closed on Sunday:
– Wellington Street, between Booth Street and Vimy Place, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
– Chaudière and Portage bridges from 12:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.
– Wellington Street, between Booth and Bank streets, from 12:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.
– Bank Street, between Wellington and Albert streets, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
– Albert Street, between Bank and O’Connor streets, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
During the weekend, OC Transpo buses will maintain their regular schedules with some detours in place:
– Routes 6, 7, and 11 will be diverted due to the closure of Bank Street between Slater Street and Gladstone Avenue from 4:30 p.m. Friday until midnight Monday.
– Northbound trips on routes 6 and 7 will utilize Metcalfe Street, while southbound trips will use O’Connor Street.
– Eastbound trips on Route 1 will be routed via Kent Street, and westbound trips will use Lyon Street.
– Routes 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11 will have detours during the Capital Pride parade from 11:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
All affected bus trips during the parade will be rerouted through nearby streets. Para Transpo customers attending the parade will be dropped off and picked up at Booth Street at Vimy Place. For other Pride events, Para Transpo pick-up and drop-off points will be situated on O’Connor Street at Laurier Avenue W. and on Gilmour Street at Derby Place.
