A woman hiking on Tent Ridge in Kananaskis Country tragically passed away. Authorities located her on Monday following a search effort involving Kananaskis Mountain Rescue and Canmore RCMP’s canine unit. Emergency services, including paramedics, were also involved in the search.
Const. Sandra Geiger confirmed that the hiker was found the next day. Police mentioned that there is no suspicion surrounding the death, and the cause of death is being determined by the chief medical examiner’s office. Details about the woman’s age and origin have not been disclosed by the police.
This incident marks the fifth hiking-related fatality in Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country since June. Furthermore, this is the first death reported on Tent Ridge since 2016.

Over the past six years, the popularity of summer hikes has significantly increased. CBC News, through an access to information request, reported that Tent Ridge welcomed an estimated 8,560 hikers in 2019, which surged to 20,425 by 2025. The average number of hikers annually between 2019 and 2025 stood at 14,528.
Between 2017 and 2025, Kananaskis Mountain Rescue responded to 49 incidents in the Tent Ridge area, including cases of overdue hikers, broken ankles, and minor injuries.
