Wilson expressed concerns about the leadership of the new party leader, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, stating that she never anticipated such rapid deterioration in the party dynamics. Elected in 2024, Wilson affirmed her conservative beliefs but highlighted breakdowns in communication within the party and apprehensions regarding Findlay’s leadership direction, particularly in staffing decisions.
Following in the footsteps of seven other MLAs who have distanced themselves from the Conservatives, including Á’a:líya Warbus, MLA for Chilliwack-Cultus Lake, who recently voiced her loss of confidence in Findlay, Wilson’s departure adds to the party’s challenges.
Kerry-Lynne Findlay assumed the role of party leader in May. Since then, the party has experienced the departure of crucial personnel and has been embroiled in accusations suggesting attempts to coerce MLAs to vacate their positions to secure a seat in the B.C. Legislature for Findlay, allegations vehemently refuted as political smears by her. The party has yet to provide a response to CBC News’s inquiry on the matter.
Former Conservatives Peter Milobar and Ian Paton have announced their intentions to establish a new political party, further indicating the internal divisions within the B.C. Conservative party.
