The assault resumed after U.S. peace negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff departed Kyiv following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Trump administration aimed to end Russia’s prolonged conflict in Ukraine and did not rule out further negotiations.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for launching a significant attack on Kyiv immediately after the U.S. envoys’ departure. He urged allies to intensify pressure on Moscow and provide interceptors to counter ballistic missiles.
Residents, like 61-year-old Iryna Barisenkova, described hearing explosions and witnessing a massive fire near the Darnytskyi Vehicle Repair Plant. The attacks intensified prior to the U.S. officials’ visit, with Russia targeting military and logistic sites in Kyiv and the surrounding region.
Neighboring Poland activated aircraft to counter potential Russian missile strikes on Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones inflicted damage in Saratov, Russia, injuring civilians and disrupting activities near an oil refinery and military facilities.
In a separate incident, two individuals were killed and one wounded in a Ukrainian attack on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014, according to regional governor Sergei Aksyonov.
