“Ross Sheppard High School Lockdown Lifted After Police Investigation”

Ross Sheppard High School underwent a brief lockdown on Friday afternoon following a weapons complaint investigation by the police. According to police spokesperson Cheryl Voordenhout, officers were called to the school at approximately 12:30 p.m. in response to the complaint.

The lockdown, which was initiated as a precautionary measure, was lifted by around 2:30 p.m., allowing students to exit the premises. Police discovered an imitation firearm on the school grounds, but no injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.

Voordenhout emphasized the realistic appearance of imitation guns, highlighting the challenge of distinguishing them from real weapons. Edmonton Public Schools representative Kim Smith confirmed that the school received clearance from the police after approximately two hours.

To keep families informed, the division utilized the SchoolMessenger system for urgent notifications and will be sending out correspondence to parents. Ross Sheppard High School is situated in the Woodcroft neighborhood of west Edmonton at 13546 111 Ave.
