Canadian Women’s Hockey Team Camp Swap: Nurse Out, Aubin In

Veteran hockey player Sarah Nurse has been replaced by college forward Alexia Aubin in the Canadian women’s hockey team selection camp roster for the upcoming world championship. Hockey Canada made the announcement via social media on the first day of the camp in Quebec City without providing a specific reason for the change.

According to a Hockey Canada spokesperson, Nurse declined the invitation to the camp, and the organization will honor her decision. Despite initially being invited to the camp, Nurse’s removal means she will not participate in the selection process for the 25-player world championship team, chosen from the 42 camp invitees.

Sarah Nurse, a three-time Olympian, holds records for tournament points and assists after securing gold at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. She has been instrumental in Canada’s recent world championship victories in 2021, 2022, and 2024. Nurse faced an arm injury during the Vancouver Goldeneyes’ PWHL season opener, causing her to miss nearly eight weeks of play. Notably, she scored the inaugural goal for the Goldeneyes in that game.

In place of Nurse, Alexia Aubin, a junior at Colgate University from Levis, Quebec, has been added to the roster. Aubin, aged 20, previously represented Canada’s development team in a series against the United States. The women’s world championship is scheduled to take place in Esbjerg and Herning, Denmark, from November 6 to 16, with the United States as the reigning champions.
