Guardians’ Ramirez, Williams Propel Team to AL Championship

Gavin Williams showcased his pitching prowess with 12 strikeouts while José Ramirez smashed a unique home run to lead the Cleveland Guardians to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night. This win completed a remarkable comeback from an initial 0-2 deficit in the best-of-five AL Division Series.

The Guardians are now set to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Championship Series, aiming for their first World Series appearance since 2016. Cleveland’s last World Series triumph dates back to 1948, making it the team with the longest championship drought in MLB history.

In a remarkable display of skill, Williams, who had secured the save in Game 4, joined an elite group by becoming only the third pitcher in post-season history to record the final out in one game and start the next when facing elimination in both instances.

Williams maintained a no-hit performance until Kyle Teel managed a hit in the sixth inning, following Ramirez’s pivotal two-run homer off Sean Burke in the fourth inning, marking Ramirez’s second consecutive game with a home run.
