“Suspicious Fire Ravages Bakery and Elderly Housing Facility in Quebec”

The police in Quebec, known as the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), are looking into a suspicious fire that ravaged a bakery and a facility offering housing assistance to elderly individuals in Sept-Îles early on Sunday. SQ spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel disclosed that emergency services responded to a fire at a property on Père-Divet Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. The director of the Sept-Îles Fire Department, Patrick Bouffard, mentioned that firefighters managed to put out the fire in time to salvage a section of the building. Nevertheless, the locations of Pâtisserie Disney and the Coopérative de solidarité d’aide à domicile de la MRC de Sept-Rivières, situated adjacent to each other, suffered complete devastation. Ruel indicated that evidence discovered at the fire scene suggests a potential criminal origin of the incident, prompting the SQ to launch an investigation. In response to smoke from the fire, residents of a nearby senior residence were temporarily evacuated, although no injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.
