“Stranded Fishing Vessel Halts Seafood Plant Operations”

A fishing vessel named the High Roller III, measuring 15 meters in length, is currently stranded on the rocks at Bay de Verde following a grounding incident over the past weekend. The Coast Guard is actively participating in managing the situation, with response efforts continuing throughout Monday.

In light of the vessel’s proximity to a seawater intake system serving the Quinlan Brothers seafood plant, plant operations have been temporarily halted as a precautionary measure. Robin Quinlan confirmed the suspension, emphasizing the need to ensure that the plant’s water sources remain uncontaminated by any potential diesel fuel leakage from the stranded vessel.

Notably, the seafood plant was gearing up to process farmed salmon from Placentia Bay before the incident occurred. However, the company is taking necessary steps to safeguard the plant’s wells and water system from any possible adverse effects.

Despite attempts to reach out, the owner of the vessel has yet to respond to communication attempts.
