A man accused of murdering Zachary Pollock in Moncton, James Hannah, is set to undergo a preliminary inquiry next spring. Pollock, aged 34, sustained serious injuries and was discovered in a parking lot outside the Bridge to Home Shelter and Resource Hub on St. George Street, where he succumbed to his wounds despite being rushed to the hospital.
James Hannah, 30, was taken into custody on August 31 and charged the following day. He has remained in detention since then. During a recent court appearance in Moncton provincial court, it was confirmed that a three-day preliminary inquiry is scheduled to commence on May 10, 2027. This inquiry will assess if the Crown possesses adequate evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
The nature of the incident at the shelter and the use of a weapon have not been disclosed by the RCMP. If convicted of first-degree murder, Hannah would face a trial by judge and jury in the Court of King’s Bench, with a mandatory life sentence and no eligibility for parole for 25 years.
