Meghan Ipana’s young daughter’s life was saved by an act of kindness, leading to a strong bond between two families. Lillian, now three years old, was born with a rare liver condition called biliary atresia, requiring a transplant. Living in Inuvik, N.W.T., finding a suitable donor seemed uncertain until an anonymous donor was located in November 2023.
The transplant surgery took place over two years ago in July 2024, and Lillian is progressing well despite some ongoing medical concerns. Recently, Meghan and Lillian had the opportunity to meet the donor, Carmin Boskill, from North Battleford, Sask. Boskill had decided to become an organ donor due to her father’s liver disease and nursing background.
Although the match was initially anonymous, Boskill identified Lillian as her recipient through a Facebook post by Ipana. Following the surgeries, the families were introduced, leading to a heartfelt meeting this summer in Edmonton. Boskill described the profound connection she felt with the family.
Ipana expressed gratitude towards Boskill for saving Lillian’s life, acknowledging her as the real hero. The families now stay in regular contact and are eager for future reunions. While Lillian is still too young to grasp the full story, Ipana plans to share it with her as she grows older, confident that she will appreciate the significance of their bond.
