“Arrests Made in Violent Chatham Break-In Case”

Chatham-Kent Police Service has announced the arrest of multiple individuals following a violent break-in at a residence, which was followed by threats against the victims and witnesses. The incident occurred in Chatham on August 10 and involved a group forcibly entering a home, attacking occupants, and stealing belongings. Among the victims, a 16-year-old faced threats with a knife, while a 19-year-old was physically assaulted, choked, and menaced with death.

After collecting witness testimonies and examining surveillance footage, investigators successfully identified the suspects. One of the accused allegedly made threatening remarks to a victim via social media on August 13, indicating intentions to harm the victims and target the residence upon learning of the police pursuit.

The police have pressed charges against two 22-year-old Chatham residents for offenses including break and enter, armed robbery, assault, and wearing a disguise with intent. Furthermore, one of the 22-year-olds faces additional charges of causing bodily harm through assault and making threats of bodily harm and death. The other individual has been charged with possessing a weapon for malevolent purposes and failing to comply with undertakings on two occasions.

Additionally, a 19-year-old woman from Chatham has been charged with break and enter, aiding in armed robbery, and participating in assault. The police have also detained three young offenders in connection with the incident.
