Parents residing in the Avalon Peninsula who wish to enroll their children in Kinderstart for the upcoming year will have a two-day window next week to complete the registration process. Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Education announced that registration for September will commence at 9 a.m. NT on October 7 for English and early French immersion programs, followed by a continuation on October 8.
While registration for Kinderstart in other regions of the province was finalized earlier this year, the process was paused for Avalon parents due to changes in the registration system introduced by the provincial government. Privacy Commissioner Kerry Hatfield recommended the removal of MCP numbers collection following a 2024 security breach of PowerSchool, the data management software utilized in Newfoundland and Labrador’s K-12 school system.
To be eligible for registration, children must be turning five on or before December 31, 2027. This ensures that children are of the appropriate age to participate in the Kinderstart program.
