Canadian defender Moise Bombito made a decision influenced by a conversation with Canadian national team coach Jesse Marsch. Despite facing chronic pain in his left tibia, the 26-year-old center back is set to undergo surgery once again, as announced by his club team Nice. The Ligue 1 outfit revealed that Bombito, a Montreal native, required the surgery after experiencing persistent pain in his leg.
Expressing his determination to participate in the FIFA World Cup hosted in his home country, Bombito recounted his conversation with the national team coach, where he committed to representing Canada despite his physical limitations. Although he had previously fractured his tibia on October 5, Bombito managed to return in time to play for Canada during the summer tournament. Despite his efforts, he struggled with his injury during the matches, especially in the knockout game against South Africa.
Acknowledging the tough situation, Bombito admitted to feeling discomfort and pain upon his return to Nice but initially hesitated to undergo surgery. However, the ongoing pain and physical limitations pushed him to consider the surgery, aiming to return to full fitness and contribute effectively on the field. Prior to joining Nice in 2024, Bombito had a successful stint with Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, playing 35 games in his debut season with the French club before injuries sidelined him for most of the following season.
