Parents, students, and staff at Central School in Swift Current, Saskatchewan were greeted with warm embraces, enthusiastic high-fives, and uplifting music as they kicked off the new school year. CJ the Cougar, the school’s mascot, joyfully welcomed students at the entrance while the school’s theme song set a festive tone for the day.
Principal Tricia Raynard expressed her excitement for the start of the school year, emphasizing the importance of building strong connections with students and fostering a positive learning environment. The Chinook School Division commenced the academic year for its 60 schools and over 6,000 students in southwest Saskatchewan, a day ahead of most other schools in the province.
Raynard highlighted the significance of starting the year with energy and enthusiasm to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that encourages students to engage and thrive. Students, including Delta Martens, Kensington Martens, and Rio Fox, shared their mix of nerves and excitement as they embarked on a new academic journey.
While many schools across Saskatchewan were set to reopen the following day, Raynard emphasized the special bond between teachers and students, noting the joy and fulfillment that comes from seeing students eager to return to school. The first day at Central School exemplified a vibrant and spirited start to the academic year, setting a positive tone for the days ahead.
