MLA Chan Denies Assault Charges, Opts for Jury Trial

Richmond Centre’s MLA, Hon Chan, has formally denied accusations of assault, assault by choking, and making threats. His legal representative entered the plea on his behalf in the Richmond provincial court on August 27. Additionally, Chan has opted for a trial by jury.

The B.C. Prosecution Service assigned a special prosecutor to the case back in June 2025. The alleged incidents are said to have taken place on January 12, 2024, in Richmond.

Following his charges in March, Chan was ousted from the B.C. Conservative Party caucus. Despite this, he stated that he would not step down from his position as the MLA for Richmond Centre, asserting his innocence until proven guilty. Chan’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 16.
