Christine Fréchette to Lead Coalition Avenir Québec Regardless of Trois-Rivières Election Outcome

Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette has confirmed that she will continue to lead the party regardless of the outcome in the Trois-Rivières, Quebec riding election on October 5. Speaking on Radio-Canada’s morning show, Fréchette expressed her dedication to her leadership role. She emphasized the party’s aim to attract a broad range of Quebecers to their platform, which she believes resonates with the priorities of the people, especially those in Trois-Rivières.

Fréchette, who originally won her seat in Sanguinet in 2022, decided to run in Trois-Rivières in late June. Born and raised in Trois-Rivières, Fréchette strategically avoided competing against Parti Québécois candidate Alain Therrien by switching ridings. Therrien, a former MP for Bloc Québécois, had previously represented Sanguinet.

In the Trois-Rivières election, Fréchette is up against candidates from various major parties, including Jonathan Couturier from the Conservative Party of Quebec, Jean Pellerin from Parti Québécois, Valérie Renaud-Martin from the Quebec Liberal Party, and Steven Roy Cullen from Québec Solidaire. Additionally, smaller parties like Bloc pot, Parti Nul, and Climat Québec have put forward their candidates.

Despite facing challenges in the polls, with projections indicating the CAQ may not secure any seats, Fréchette remains active on the campaign trail. She started her day in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, focusing on economic issues and emphasizing the CAQ’s ability to navigate economic challenges, including U.S.-imposed tariffs. The party continues to highlight the potential uncertainties surrounding a referendum under a Parti Québécois government and the impact on investments in the province.
