The B.C. Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly representing Abbotsford-Mission has declared her resignation, with Conservative Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay expressing intentions to vie for the available seat in an upcoming byelection. Reann Gasper, the B.C. Conservatives’ deputy whip, noted in a joint statement with Findlay that the decision was thoughtfully reached. Gasper, a licensed real estate agent and first-time MLA elected in 2024, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the constituents of Abbotsford-Mission.
Findlay, who emerged victorious in the B.C. Conservative leadership race in May but currently does not hold a legislative seat, is poised to contest the forthcoming byelection. Gasper conveyed confidence in Findlay’s capability to represent their constituency, emphasizing that allowing their leader to pursue the seat would bolster the team and enhance their position for future endeavors. Findlay reciprocated appreciation for Gasper’s service, emphasizing the need to earn the trust of Abbotsford-Mission residents and fortify their team to challenge the NDP and establish a robust government in British Columbia.
Gasper is slated to continue collaborating with the Conservative caucus in the coming months. Notably, she made history by being the first Black woman elected as a B.C. MLA since the 1980s. CBC News has initiated contact with Elections B.C. to ascertain the timeline for the byelection in the vacant seat.
