“Fatal Collision Between Trucks Closes Trans-Canada Highway”

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported a fatal collision between two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, between Badger and South Brook early Tuesday morning.

Authorities were alerted to the crash just after 2:15 a.m. NT and found both vehicles engulfed in flames upon arrival. The 47-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the westbound tractor trailer sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

As a result of the police response, a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook was closed for several hours. An investigation into the cause of the collision is currently underway.
