Pankiw took to Instagram to share a text conversation where she adamantly rejected the opportunity, emphasizing her stance against funding projects that promote transphobic beliefs.
The 39-year-old director, known for her work on shows like Black Mirror and Feel Good, as well as the film I Used to be Funny, expressed her firm stance against associating with content that goes against her values. The post, dated April 21, did not disclose the recipient of Pankiw’s message.
The new Harry Potter series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on December 25, 2026, and will be available for streaming on Crave in Canada. The show is based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved fantasy book series and has already sparked controversy due to the author’s controversial views on transgender issues.
Rowling’s public statements on gender and sex have divided opinions, with many criticizing her for promoting transphobic ideologies.
