Fitbit, known for its long history of promoting physical activity, has introduced a fresh product under Google’s ownership – the Fitbit Air. This new device offers a more affordable and convenient way to monitor daily fitness levels, distinctive from previous Fitbit models as it lacks a screen, resembling stylish Whoop bands that easily wrap around the wrist.
While the absence of a screen means certain features like message viewing, heart rate checking, and exercise stats are not available, it brings notable benefits. The Fitbit Air is designed for enhanced comfort, resembling a bracelet-style strap rather than a traditional smartwatch. A recent study by Google rated the Fitbit Air as the most comfortable among its competitors.
Moreover, the Fitbit Air boasts a remarkable battery life, lasting up to a week without requiring removal. Even when the battery depletes, quick charging capabilities provide a day’s worth of power in just five minutes. The device comes with a new magnetic charger featuring bi-directional technology for hassle-free recharging.
Despite its sleek appearance, the Fitbit Air retains its core functionalities. It monitors nightly sleep, daily activity levels, exercise routines, heart rate, and can detect conditions like AFib, notifying users of irregular heart rhythms. Internal features include an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor.
Since the Fitbit Air lacks a display, all collected data is seamlessly transmitted to smartphones, where users can access a comprehensive health overview through the Google Health Coach. The device is fully waterproof up to 50 meters and will be offered in four color options: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender.
As for pricing, the Fitbit Air will be available for £84.99 when it hits the market.
