Professional golfer Tyrrell Hatton expressed his frustration with the course after encountering an early setback during his final round at the Masters on Sunday. Starting the day at 4-under following a level par performance on Saturday and an impressive 66 on Friday, Hatton began positively by securing a birdie on the par-5 second hole but then dropped a shot at the 251-yard par-3 fourth hole, which proved to be a costly mistake.
His tee shot slightly overshot, landing just off the green, setting up what should have been a routine two-putt for a player of his caliber. However, after his first putt fell short by about three feet, Hatton made a critical error on his next attempt as the ball caught the lip of the hole. The 34-year-old, known for occasional emotional outbursts, visibly displayed his frustration through head shakes and muttered words before finally completing the hole on his fourth try.
In a moment of outburst, Hatton exclaimed, “This place is frustrating,” as he returned his putter. This incident was not unique, as fellow golfer Wyndham Clark also unleashed an expletive-laden expression of disappointment after a similar misfortune in the following group.
Despite his early struggles, Hatton managed to improve his round with an eagle on the seventh hole and a birdie on the eighth, boosting his morale. The challenging course conditions, particularly the unforgiving firmness of the greens under the scorching Augusta heat, seemed to be affecting multiple players.
Meanwhile, Hatton’s LIV Golf teammate Jon Rahm faced his own difficulties, recording three bogeys on a markedly firm Augusta National course. Rahm acknowledged the unique challenges of the tournament conditions and expressed his intention to make adjustments for future events.
Hatton concluded his round at -10, taking the clubhouse lead while closely monitoring the performances of competitors like Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.
