“Heroic Teachers, Brave Students Survive Terrifying Bear Attack”

A school has commended the bravery of heroic teachers and the resilience of students involved in a terrifying bear attack that resulted in two individuals fighting for their lives and several others sustaining injuries.

The incident occurred while a group of pupils and teachers from Acwsalcta School, an independent school operated by the native Nuxalk Nation of Bella Coola, were on a hiking trail in Bella Coola, Canada. Authorities responded to reports of an animal attack near Highway 20 at approximately 1:46 pm on November 20.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services found nearly a dozen people injured, with some individuals suffering critical and severe wounds. Four individuals were swiftly transported to hospitals, with two in critical condition and two with serious injuries.

In a Facebook post, the school announced its closure due to the bear incident and praised the teachers and students for their courage and resilience during the ordeal. They highlighted the swift actions and dedication of the staff in protecting and supporting the students, while expressing pride in the students for their unity and adherence to instructions.

One parent, Veronica Schooner, shared that her son, Alvarez, was present during the attack and described the terrifying experience of him “running for his life.” She recounted how the bear had come dangerously close, causing panic among the group.

Authorities confirmed that a grizzly bear was responsible for the attack, with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) also present at the scene. Residents were advised to avoid the area where the attack occurred until further notice, with details about the victims remaining undisclosed.

The Nuxalk Nation warned the public about the presence of the aggressive bear still at large in the area, urging people to remain indoors for safety.
