Health updates have been provided regarding three horses that suffered falls during the Grand National event. Following the incidents at Aintree near Liverpool, Mr Vango, Top Of The Bill, and Quai De Bourbon required evaluation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Sara Bradstock, Mr Vango’s trainer, expressed optimism about the horse’s recovery despite sustaining an avulsion fracture in the neck. Mr Vango, who fell at the sixth fence, was moved to Leahurst Equine Hospital for ongoing care until deemed fully healthy. Bradstock mentioned, “We are currently at the hospital; he has a small avulsion fracture in the neck, but it is not near the vertebrae. We are cautiously optimistic and will conduct a CT scan before his discharge.”
Although the recovery process may take time, Bradstock remains hopeful that Mr Vango can return to racing in the future, pending further assessment results. Additionally, Top Of The Bill, owned by Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies, underwent examination after his tumble at the final fence but was reported to be in good condition.
Regarding Quai De Bourbon, owned by Willie Mullins, the horse was evaluated following a fall at the second fence and was scheduled to return home after the race.
In other news, jockey Toby McCain-Mitchell received a 10-day suspension for not pulling up Top Of The Bill promptly after the fall. The incident occurred during the Grand National race at Aintree, where several horses faced challenges.
