“Virgin Media Slashes Gig1 Broadband Price to £26.99”

Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to an all-time low. The company has introduced a surprise sale reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.

The Gig1 Fibre Broadband provides super-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically costs £29.99 per month. However, it is now available for just £26.99 per month, resulting in a savings of £72 over the 24-month contract, which translates to approximately 87p per day.

Virgin has emphasized that this promotion marks the ‘lowest ever price’ for its Gig1 plan. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.

While households with 70Mbps speeds may have to wait over 90 minutes to download the same game, Virgin’s Gig1 plan allows for seamless Netflix streaming and online gaming due to its high-speed connection.

It’s important to note that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so potential customers are advised to check for availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.

Compared to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal stands out as a cost-effective option. Even though Sky has reduced its 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains pricier than Virgin and offers slower speeds. BT, on the other hand, charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection.

For those seeking alternative providers, Community Fibre is currently offering 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month, with the first three months free and prices fixed throughout the contract. However, this option is limited to London and select south-east areas.

Choosing the right broadband speed depends on individual needs. For instance, a couple streaming Netflix daily in a flat can manage well with speeds around 100Mbps, while larger households engaging in work-from-home activities, downloading content, and online gaming may require at least 300Mbps.

Investing in Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre is akin to having a high-speed highway directly into your home, ensuring smooth and fast connectivity for a range of online activities.
