Manitoba RCMP have confirmed that the human remains discovered in Umpherville earlier this week belong to a newly born infant or fetus. The authorities were notified about the possible human remains found in the outdoor area of the northern community, located near The Pas, around 9 a.m. on Monday. The remains were located between two residences, as stated in a press release issued by the RCMP on Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, and the RCMP is currently conducting an investigation.
In response to the discovery, Elder Edwin Jebb of Opaskwayak Cree Nation mentioned that a sacred fire has been ignited in the vicinity where the remains were uncovered. He highlighted that a vigil was organized in the area, drawing a larger crowd of 80 individuals, surpassing the expected attendance of 60. This incident has had a profound impact on the community, with Jebb describing it as a traumatic experience for everyone involved.
Jebb further emphasized the community’s resilience in coping with the situation, noting the supportive interactions among residents as they navigate through this challenging time. The police have urged anyone possessing relevant information that could aid in the investigation to contact The Pas RCMP at 204-627-6204.
