An Israeli airstrike in central Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the death of two Palestinians, a three-year-old child named Tayyem Hamdan and a man named Hussam Nusair, as confirmed by health officials. The strike, near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, also left several others injured, according to Gaza medics.
The Israeli military stated that the airstrike was targeting and successfully took down a Hamas militant, Hussam Nusair, who was allegedly involved in planning attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. However, Hamas has not yet responded to these accusations.
Despite a U.S.-backed ceasefire last October that brought a pause to major conflicts in the region, Israeli military operations have continued, citing the need to prevent attacks by Hamas and other Gaza militants. Hamas, on the other hand, accuses Israel of breaching the ceasefire terms and obstructing the efforts to implement a broader peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which includes Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
Since the ceasefire was initiated last October, over 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza, as reported by health officials in the region. In contrast, the Israeli military claims that four Israeli soldiers have been killed during the same period.
