Lindsey Vonn Overcomes Injury: Clinches Spot on U.S. Ski Team

Lindsey Vonn secures a spot on the U.S. alpine ski team for the upcoming 2026-27 World Cup season despite facing uncertainty due to her recovery from surgery post a serious crash at the previous Milano-Cortina Olympics. The U.S. team confirmed that all selected athletes met the alpine criteria. Despite her recent setbacks, Vonn ranked 12th overall and fifth in downhill standings last season, making her the top U.S. female skier in the super-G discipline.

Following a major leg injury during the Olympic downhill event on February 8, the three-time Olympic medalist, who turns 42 this month, expressed doubts about her return to competitive skiing. Vonn has undergone multiple surgeries since the incident. The World Cup season kickstarts in Soelden, Austria, featuring a giant slalom on October 24, followed by the first downhill race in Beaver Creek, Colorado, on December 11.
