An enthusiast of food experienced nausea after trying to master a 9,000-calorie chilli challenge. Jonny Adams tackled the enormous meal at Cattleman’s Steakhouse.
The challenge included 1kg of chilli, rice, chips, garlic bread, nachos, cheese, and salad, totaling a hefty 4kg. Despite teaming up with a friend, the 42-year-old duo surrendered with only 0.5kg remaining.
Located in Paignton, Devon, the steakhouse charges £50 for participation and offers a solo diner an hour to finish the feast and win £100. As a pair, they were given 20 minutes, yet they threw in the towel at the 16-minute mark.
Jonny, hailing from Manchester, shared, “We were very confident at the beginning because there were two of us. Initially, it was enjoyable as I really like chilli, but after about five minutes, I started feeling unwell.
“The spiciness of the chilli became overwhelming, and I felt suffocated. Despite my height of 5ft 10in and love for chilli, I couldn’t fathom how one person could consume it all. I felt extremely nauseous. The portion of chilli seemed never-ending.
“We left around 0.5kg, and we were disappointed we couldn’t complete it. Immediately after, I had to regurgitate the food. I felt terribly ill.”
Since its launch a year ago, only 38 individuals have dared to take on the challenge, with a mere three successfully finishing it. The current fastest completion time stands at 13 minutes.
