Manchester United is facing competition from four other Premier League teams in the pursuit of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. However, the Red Devils are expected to delay any potential move for the talented English player until the summer.
United is closely monitoring the midfielder, whose growing reputation has led to speculations of a hefty £100 million price tag. This valuation comes just over a year after Anderson’s transfer from Newcastle to Nottingham Forest for £35 million.
Following substantial business in the summer transfer window, Ruben Amorim’s priority for the next transfer window is to bolster the central midfield position. The club had previously shown interest in Carlos Baleba and Conor Gallagher during the summer, and more recently, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Wolves’ Joao Gomes have emerged as potential targets.
United is likely to focus on seizing ‘market opportunities’ during the upcoming winter transfer window, reserving major moves for long-term targets until the summer. Amorim is considering turning to the club’s academy before making significant investments in a new central midfielder at the end of the season.
Anderson is viewed as a possible long-term replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford, as reported by The Times. The uncertainty surrounding the Brazilian’s future, with his contract expiring in the summer, adds to the intrigue. Nottingham Forest is not inclined to engage in transfer negotiations in January.
Looking ahead to the summer, Manchester United may encounter competition from Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester City, and Chelsea in the pursuit of Anderson. Newcastle’s chances of striking a deal are slim due to financial constraints, despite their interest in reacquiring their former academy player.
Liverpool is also keeping tabs on Anderson as a potential addition to their squad, although their primary focus may shift towards signing a central defender following previous misses in the transfer market. Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring Anderson’s development and situation closely.
Amorim, the United manager, has not ruled out potential January transfers, especially with key players like Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Noussair Mazraoui expected to be absent during the Africa Cup of Nations.
“If we can improve the team and prepare for any eventualities, we will consider the opportunities presented during the transfer window,” Amorim stated.
