Lawrence Okolie has suggested that a bicep injury may have been a factor in his recent failed drug test. The former cruiserweight and bridgerweight champion was set to face Tony Yoka in Paris as part of his transition to the heavyweight division.
His promoter, Queensberry, revealed that the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) notified them of an adverse finding in Okolie’s pre-fight test. Okolie, in response, shared on social media that he had sustained an elbow injury on the same arm as his previous bicep injury, which led to treatment during his training camp.
Okolie and Yoka both competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics in different weight categories. While Yoka secured a gold medal, Okolie left empty-handed. Despite this setback, Okolie went on to claim the cruiserweight title before moving up to bridgerweight and eventually to heavyweight.
Expressing confidence in clearing his name, Okolie emphasized his cooperation with the ongoing investigation. The upcoming developments regarding the situation remain awaited as fans show their support for the boxer during this challenging time.
