“New Temporary Route on Wellington Road for London Drivers”

Londoners driving along a section of Wellington Road will face a new route starting from Monday. The City of London announced the opening of a temporary diversion for traffic between Wellington Crescent and Thomas Janes Drive. This diversion is planned to be operational until 2027, as confirmed by the city.

The temporary route has been implemented to facilitate the replacement of underground infrastructure as part of the ongoing Wellington Gateway rapid transit project. The entire project is slated to continue until 2029, with final restoration work scheduled for completion in 2030.

In addition to the road changes, a new multi-use path has been constructed on the west side of the temporary road, offering pedestrians and cyclists a safer route. Temporary northbound and southbound bus stops near Emery Street have also been established to ensure uninterrupted transit services.

While the construction progresses, traffic and sidewalk restrictions will persist on Wellington Road and select side streets. The City of London advises residents to adhere to posted signs and factor in extra travel time when passing through the affected area.
