Ottawa emergency responders successfully rescued a woman in her 40s who was trapped in her vehicle following a collision with a train near VIA Rail’s Fallowfield station on Sunday afternoon, as reported by Ottawa Fire Services. A representative from the Ottawa Paramedic Service informed CBC that the woman was being taken to the hospital in stable condition.
According to Ottawa Fire Services, they were alerted by the Ottawa Police Service about the incident on Fallowfield Road near Woodroffe Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, firefighters found the severely damaged vehicle had stopped about 75 feet away from the crash site.
Using specialized extraction equipment, firefighters were able to free the trapped driver within seven minutes of reaching the scene. Ottawa Fire Services mentioned that an investigation, involving the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, Transport Canada, and Ottawa police, is currently in progress.
