Police in Cape Breton are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an individual believed to be linked to a fire at the Mira Boat Club in Albert Bridge, N.S. The Cape Breton Regional Police were alerted to an alarm at the boat club at approximately 1:45 a.m. on October 9, 2026, where local volunteer firefighters were already on the scene combatting the blaze. Following an assessment by the fire marshal, the fire was deemed suspicious, leading to the involvement of the police department’s arson investigator.
Authorities have released security camera images showing a person in a four-door vehicle near the boat club shortly before the fire broke out, urging anyone with information on the individual or the vehicle to come forward to the police for assistance. The Mira Boat Club, a non-profit organization also serving as a community hub, had to cease operations for the remainder of the season due to substantial exterior and smoke damage caused by the fire.
Gary O’Brien from the fire marshal’s office noted a rise in similar incidents across the region in recent months, emphasizing the collaborative efforts with the Cape Breton Regional Police to address these occurrences. He mentioned that there is no identifiable pattern linking the recent fires in the municipality.
