Projet Montréal has lodged an urgent request to compel Fady Dagher, the head of the Montreal Police Service (SPVM), to attend a city council session within the next seven days. This motion was submitted on Monday following the suspension of two police officers stationed at Station 21 in downtown Montreal for alleged acts of humiliation targeted at homeless and racialized individuals. One of the officers under suspension is accused of urinating on homeless individuals while in uniform.
The Montreal Police have identified the two suspended officers as being from Station 21, which serves the downtown area. The SPVM has initiated an internal investigation into these allegations, including the reported acts of urination on homeless individuals.
Earlier this year, four officers faced suspension after an internal probe into racism and misconduct at Station 39 in the Montréal-Nord borough. Ericka Alneus, the opposition leader, expressed in a press release that her party has significant inquiries for Mr. Dagher concerning the “organizational culture, internal oversight mechanisms, and the organization’s capacity to prevent and address behaviors that contradict the values of our city.”
