RCMP in Kelowna, B.C., are currently conducting an investigation into an alleged kidnapping incident. The case emerged when an individual managed to escape from a residence and reported to authorities that they were forcibly taken from the Lower Mainland to Kelowna. Police suspect that the victim was specifically targeted to pressure an associate and clarify that the victim is not involved in any criminal acts.
Staff Sgt. Tim Russell of the RCMP stated that the investigation is in its initial phase, with efforts ongoing to uncover the full details of the victim’s claims. Authorities reassure the public that there is no immediate danger to the community. The investigation commenced late on Sept. 28, following a report from the 400-block of Sands Court in Kelowna’s Rutland neighborhood.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement found the victim, who received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries and shared their account with the authorities. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed by the RCMP. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed at a residence linked to the alleged kidnapping, leading to the arrest of a male suspect. However, the individual was released pending further inquiries.
The Serious Crime Unit in Kelowna has taken over the case in collaboration with law enforcement in the Lower Mainland. They are urging anyone with relevant information to step forward and provide details about a vehicle associated with the incident—a white Dodge Ram Rebel pickup truck of recent make, observed between 2 a.m. PT and midnight on Sept. 28.
