During the holiday season, many people express their unique personalities through their Christmas tree decorations. A recent survey of 2,000 adults revealed that the average person owns three homemade baubles and four heirloom decorations. Interestingly, one in five individuals has more than 50 tree decorations, and they are likely to add four new ones each year.
Most Christmas trees are adorned with ornaments that hold sentimental value and reflect the owner’s personality. It was found that 44% of people have gifted a loved one an ornament, and almost all tree decorators have ornaments dating back two or more decades, with some going as far back as the 1960s.
When decorating their trees, many individuals place their most meaningful ornaments at the front to evoke special memories. To help people identify their decorating style, Hallmark has introduced a new tool alongside its festive ornament range launch.
According to a spokesperson from the retailer, decorating Christmas trees is a cherished tradition for families, with each decoration telling a unique story and adding a touch of Christmas magic to the home.
For the majority of households, putting up and decorating the Christmas tree marks the official start of the holiday season. It was found that 86% of people believe this, with a significant portion spending between 90 minutes to four hours decorating their tree.
Families often decorate the tree together, with 58% of individuals preferring to do so with their partner, children, or parents. Personalization is key for many, as two-thirds believe it is important for their decorations to reflect their personality, such as incorporating favorite TV, film, or cartoon characters.
When it comes to buying new ornaments, matching the current ones is important for 39% of respondents. Different decorating styles were identified, with 30% describing their style as ‘traditional’, followed by ‘sentimental’ (16%), ‘color-coordinators’ (15%), and ‘minimalist modern’ (11%).
In conclusion, everyone has a unique tree decorating personality, whether they prefer sentimental ornaments or a coordinated look. The true joy of Christmas tree decorating lies in sharing the experience with loved ones.
