Teenage Motorcyclist Faces Charges After Fatal Edmonton Bus Shelter Crash

A teenage individual is set to face legal charges following a motorcycle accident at a bus shelter in Edmonton that resulted in a fatality and left three others severely injured, including an infant. The incident took place late Tuesday evening at the intersection of 97th Street and 120th Avenue, with emergency services responding just before 9 p.m.

Among those affected was a 21-year-old man who succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital. Additionally, a 46-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, and her 10-month-old son sustained varying degrees of injuries, with the infant’s injuries deemed potentially life-threatening.

Authorities revealed that a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle and an unidentified BMW vehicle were allegedly racing northbound on 97th Street from 118th Avenue leading up to the collision. The motorcycle reportedly veered onto the sidewalk, striking the bus shelter after jumping the curb on the east side of 97th Street.

The 18-year-old male rider of the motorcycle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital under paramedic care. He now faces charges related to dangerous operation resulting in death and bodily harm, although his identity remains undisclosed pending the formal swearing of charges.

The Edmonton Police Service’s major collision investigations section is actively looking into the incident and is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the BMW vehicle involved.
