“Ten Horses Withdrawn from Grand National Lineup”

The latest stage of scratchings for the Grand National has seen ten horses withdrawn, leaving a total of 34 horses set to compete at Aintree. Horse racing enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the £1 million National event, which is less than a month away. The challenging four-mile, two-and-a-half furlong race features top staying chasers navigating 30 fences.

Since 2024, the field size for the National has been capped at 34 horses, down from the previous 40. Updates on the lineup for the April 11 race reveal that ten horses have been removed at this stage of scratchings. Among the recent withdrawals are notable horses like Gold Cup competitor Grey Dawning, Bet365 Gold Cup winner Resplendent Grey, and Gentlemansgame.

Further adjustments to the lineup include the removal of seven additional horses, including Western Fold, Croke Park, Better Days Ahead, Search For Glory, Handstands, Pic Roc, and Leave of Absence. The final lineup of 34 horses is led by past winners I Am Maximus and Grangeclare West.

As the race approaches, it is expected that some horses may be withdrawn in the following weeks, possibly to participate in the Irish National on April 6. Welsh and Irish National champion Haiti Couleurs is among the promising contenders, with trainer Rebecca Curtis expressing confidence in his readiness for Aintree.

Curtis stated, “I’m excited to run him in the National now, hopefully, if everyone agrees. Where else do you go with him? That is his forte, National-type races, that’s where he’s done well.” She emphasized the similarities to their preparations from the previous year and indicated a positive outlook for Haiti Couleurs’ participation in the upcoming race.
