Toronto police conducted a targeted enforcement campaign over a two-week period this month, focusing on micromobility devices such as e-bikes and e-scooters. According to initial data released by Toronto police on Monday, a total of 324 tickets and warnings were issued between August 10 and August 24. This figure excludes some handwritten tickets that are still in the transcription process.
The primary goal of the enforcement initiative was to address the misuse of micromobility devices, including e-bikes, e-scooters, bicycles, cargo bikes, and mopeds, with the aim of promoting safe road practices to reduce accidents involving vulnerable road users. While the campaign emphasized education and awareness, law enforcement officers will persist in enforcing micromobility regulations throughout the city.
In addition to the tickets and warnings issued, police also handed out 1,277 parking tickets to vehicles illegally parked in bike lanes during the enforcement operation. The authorities highlighted that the ongoing focus is on educating road users about unlawful practices such as riding on sidewalks, cycling in the wrong direction in cycle lanes, unauthorized use of e-mopeds in cycle lanes, and improper parking in bike lanes.
As of August 10, there have been a total of 514 collisions involving micromobility devices in Toronto this year, resulting in two fatal accidents related to e-scooters. Similar initiatives were launched by Toronto police in previous summers and in November 2024, with the commitment to sustain these efforts. The police emphasized that as public awareness of the regulations grows, enforcement actions will target individuals engaging in hazardous behaviors that endanger pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.
