“US Ambassador Condemns Israeli Settlers’ Attack on Palestinian Family”

Mike Huckabee, the United States ambassador to Israel, strongly denounced the actions of Israeli settlers who besieged a Palestinian American family’s residence in the occupied West Bank, labeling it as a “horrific act of terror.” The settlers, numbering up to dozens, have been causing distress to the family in the village of Qusra since Sunday, despite efforts by the Israeli military to intervene. They have engaged in aggressive behavior, such as throwing stones and obstructing the family’s movement, leading to a dire situation with limited supplies.

Qusai Abu Rida, who sought refuge with his son in the besieged house, revealed that they were eventually relocated by the Israeli military to another dwelling but are still confined to the area. While the Israeli military did not confirm the relocation, homeowner Loui Ridi, speaking from Ohio, highlighted the prolonged targeting of their residence by settlers before the recent escalation.

In response to the escalating violence, Huckabee stated that the Israeli military and police have been deployed to address the situation and remove the perpetrators. He condemned the actions of the settlers, emphasizing the repugnant nature of the intimidation and harassment directed at the family. The Mayor of Qusra reported the forced evacuation of six homes, including three besieged hilltop residences, by Israeli soldiers.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights criticized the actions targeting residents to vacate their homes and land. Various governments, including Canada, consider the expansion of settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law. The Israeli military has taken steps to restore order, dismantling illegal outposts and detaining individuals involved in the violence.

The ongoing conflict in Qusra has drawn condemnation from human rights groups and foreign entities, with accusations leveled against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for failing to address settler attacks. Despite the military declaring the area a closed zone, settlers returned, further obstructing the situation. The volatile environment in the West Bank continues to raise concerns about the potential impact on peace efforts and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
