A Vancouver police officer, anti-gang advocate, and CEO of a youth charity, Kal Dosanjh, has been accused of theft, fraud, and breach of trust dating back to 2017. Dosanjh was taken into custody following his arrest. The charges include multiple counts of fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000, as indicated in the charge document filed on Thursday.
The allegations primarily involve fraudulent activities and misappropriation of funds related to various property development projects such as Azura, Queen’s Park, and Sahara. The incidents are reported to have taken place between January 13, 2017, and October 31, 2024, with Sarabjit Singh Gill named as a co-defendant in the case.
Court documents from the B.C. Supreme Court reveal Dosanjh and Gill are business partners in several property development ventures that have been the subject of civil lawsuits, which they have denied any wrongdoing. Dosanjh also faces charges of committing fraud over $5,000 and theft from the KidsPlay Youth Foundation, a charity he established in 2015. The alleged crimes occurred between December 8, 2017, and July 25, 2025.
In addition to the fraud and theft charges, Dosanjh is also accused of breach of trust as a public officer. Following his arrest, law enforcement officers were observed removing items from a residence listed as Dosanjh’s in court documents. Dosanjh, who has been a member of the Vancouver Police Department for over 20 years, founded the KidsPlay Youth Foundation with the goal of steering British Columbia’s youth away from criminal activities.
Dosanjh has been actively involved in media appearances promoting the charity, often organizing sports events to engage young people in community programs. Alliance Lawyers in Langley, representing Dosanjh, released a statement to CBC News stating that it is premature to draw conclusions based on their client’s arrest. They emphasized Dosanjh’s innocence and maintained that an arrest does not equate to guilt, misconduct, or criminal liability.
