There are ongoing disruptions on the eastern section of Line 1 of the O-Train due to issues with the overhead wires. Commencing at 8 p.m., the Line 1 service will be limited between Tunney’s Pasture and Tremblay stations, with a replacement service by R1 buses running between Hurdman and Blair stations. OC Transpo announced this temporary arrangement just before 6 p.m. on Friday to facilitate repair works expected to continue overnight.
The problem with a damaged component on the overhead power wire system was detected between St-Laurent and Cyrville at 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, causing a train to halt. Initially, no trains were operational beyond St-Laurent. General manager Rick Leary mentioned in a memo sent at 3:10 p.m. that regular Line 1 service would resume on Friday, but this was delayed due to more extensive damages than initially assessed. Repair work was scheduled to resume on Friday evening after the rush hour, with hopes of restoring regular service by Saturday.
The overhead catenary system of the LRT, responsible for supplying electric power to the trains, has faced issues before, sometimes attributed to adverse weather conditions like freezing rain or lightning. However, the cause of this latest damage remains undisclosed by OC Transpo. The company has yet to provide an explanation for the current issue.
