Elderly Woman Killed in Tragic Trans-Canada Highway Crash

An elderly woman, aged 80, lost her life in a collision involving two vehicles on the Trans-Canada Highway near Flat Bay in western Newfoundland, as reported by authorities. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police swiftly responded to the incident at approximately 12:30 p.m. NT the following day. This tragic event led to the closure of both lanes of the T.C.H. near the Flat Bay Junction for approximately seven hours on that day.

The deceased woman, identified as an American by the police, was pronounced dead at the crash site. She was accompanied by a 79-year-old man who sustained serious injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital in Corner Brook for treatment.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision was also taken to the hospital, but fortunately, their injuries were described as minor by the police. While Friday’s official statement did not provide updates on the current condition of the hospitalized individuals, it noted that no additional information would be disclosed to the public.

Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the crash, with the involvement of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the inquiry. The community awaits further details as the investigation progresses.
