Two individuals were taken into custody on Wednesday following a police operation in Kitchener where a substantial amount of fentanyl, suspected hydromorphone pills, a stolen handgun, and two extended capacity magazines were confiscated by Waterloo regional police.
Facing a total of 11 charges, a 22-year-old Kitchener resident and a 17-year-old from Guelph are accused of offenses such as possession with intent to traffic fentanyl and hydromorphone, illegal possession of a firearm, possessing a banned device, and violating a probation order. Additionally, the Kitchener man is charged with firearm possession for trafficking purposes.
The seizure was part of Project Firebird, an ongoing initiative launched during the summer to probe drug and firearms-related crimes. The operation took place at a residence in Kitchener situated near Ira Needles Boulevard and Highview Drive.
Both suspects are being held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
