The Calgary Flames have secured a new radio broadcasting deal. Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) and Corus Entertainment recently announced a five-year agreement to air Flames games on QR Calgary 770 AM. This move comes after Rogers Sports and Media closed Sportsnet 960 and Calgary sister station 660 NewsRadio in July, resulting in the termination of 230 jobs and the shutting down of six radio stations across Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax, and Kitchener.
Under the new deal, all Flames home and away games will be broadcast on 770 AM. CSEC’s president and CEO, Robert Hayes, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that Corus has been a strong collaborator in ensuring that Flames games remain accessible to fans. Additionally, a new daily sports talk show titled “Flames Now” is currently in the works at the station.
Corus audio vice-president Tammy Cole expressed enthusiasm for welcoming the Flames back to QR Calgary 770AM, highlighting the station’s history of broadcasting the team’s Stanley Cup-winning games in 1989. This partnership symbolizes a significant moment for both parties and aims to build on their shared history while creating an exciting future for fans.
It is worth noting that QR Calgary also broadcasts the Calgary Stampeders’ CFL games, another team owned by CSEC.
