Dismissed Attempted Murder Charge Suspect Found Deceased

Surrey, B.C. authorities have announced the dismissal of an attempted murder charge related to an incident in 2024 where a man was drenched in accelerant and set ablaze. This decision follows the discovery of human remains in a wooded area in the Fleetwood neighborhood, later confirmed to be those of 33-year-old Kalid Yimer. Police have ruled out foul play in Yimer’s demise.

Yimer was the primary suspect in the August 2, 2024, assault where a man was soaked in accelerant and ignited in the 10200-block of City Parkway. The victim sustained severe injuries in the attack, and law enforcement recovered the stolen vehicle used in the incident the following day.

With Yimer’s passing, the investigation into the attempted murder has been closed, and the victim’s family has been notified. Staff Sgt. Tara Nicholls expressed hope that despite not knowing the exact motive behind the vicious assault, the victim and the community can find solace in the fact that the responsible party has been identified.
