Alanis Morissette has initiated legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate extortion scheme to falsely incriminate Morissette for drug trafficking unless the singer agreed to sign a lengthy contract employing her.
In a lawsuit filed in California, Morissette alleges that Keren Urinov, a former Live Nation employee, threatened to report her to British authorities for drug trafficking unless she hired Urinov as a tour director for 15 years and provided substantial compensation.
The lawsuit asserts claims of civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation against Urinov. Morissette stated that she would not succumb to blackmail and took legal action to expose the scheme and hold Urinov accountable.
The incident in question occurred in 2025 when Morissette and her team, including Urinov, were traveling from the UK to Spain for a concert. At the airport, British authorities seized a bag belonging to Urinov containing marijuana and xylazine, an animal tranquilizer. Urinov was briefly arrested but released after showing her medical marijuana license.
Following the tour, Urinov allegedly sent threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a fixed 15-year contract with substantial income and bonuses as well as assistance in obtaining a work visa for the US. The lawsuit also highlighted instances where Urinov’s management of the tour was deemed subpar, including costly errors and misleading information about her past.
Morissette, feeling compelled to take legal action, emphasized her refusal to work with an incompetent individual engaging in extortion and stated her intention to seek a trial by jury. Requests for comment from Urinov and Morissette’s representatives have not been answered.
