Brighton & Hove Albion have officially secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming season in the Premier League. The Canadian striker has been signed on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with a potential permanent transfer fee of $29.7 million US contingent upon meeting specific criteria.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be making the move to the Premier League starting from the next season, marking a record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward arrives at Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances and played a key role in the club’s first league title victory in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
David, who represented Canada at the recent World Cup, contributed with a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also notched four goals in 14 matches for the Canadian national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially debuted for Nigeria’s under-23 team in October 2022 but later switched his allegiance to Canada in February 2025 after receiving approval from FIFA.
Having previously plied his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia, David’s move to Belgium in July 2024 marked another chapter in his diverse career before his transfer to Brighton. Brighton’s sporting director, Mike Cave, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting David’s goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the upcoming season.
Brighton, a consistent presence in the English top flight for nine consecutive seasons, finished in eighth place in the Premier League standings last season.
